In 2022, the layoffs of Internet companies will become more fierce. In Q1 earnings season, earnings release and layoffs were almost in full swing at the same time. According to public reports from several media networks, almost all major Internet companies have laid off workers.

From the end of 2021 to the beginning of 2022, Tencent CSIG (cloud and smart industry business group) and PCG (platform and content business group) were reported to be laid off. CSIG was the hardest hit area, and the proportion of layoffs may reach 20%-30%.

Since the end of April 2022, Alibaba has been said to be "rolling" layoffs, affecting a number of business groups, including nailing, Alibaba cloud, taote, CTO line, Amoy, etc. the compensation scheme is n+3. An Alibaba employee confirmed the rumor to DoNews, "the compensation can be negotiated, but the job transfer can not be done. HC (job vacancy) is also locked."

In early May, the day before the dual main listing of shell in Hong Kong, it was reported that shell products, R & D, operations, functions and other departments, as well as new business racetracks, home furnishing and home decoration, Pratt & Whitney residences were laid off, with a maximum proportion of 50%, with n+1 as compensation. The layoff ratio of COO line and CTO line reached 40-50%.

On May 18, it was reported that the year-end bonus of Huawei's former employees had been deducted. Many Huawei employees left messages on their pulse that there was no communication between their performance and bonus after leaving office, or their performance was directly hit C. as a result, they worked in Huawei for many years and did not receive the year-end bonus after leaving office.

The difficulties of the Internet industry in 2022 can be seen from the performance report of Q1.

Alibaba's Q4 financial report of fiscal year 2021 (different from the normal financial year, the financial report as of March 31, 2022) showed that Alibaba had a net loss of RMB 7.654 billion in the quarter, ushering in its first quarterly loss since listing. In fact, from Q4 of fiscal year 2020, the growth rate of Alibaba's revenue in a single quarter began to decline precipitously.

Tencent also faced a Waterloo of quarterly net profit. The Q1 financial report of 2022 showed that the quarterly net profit was 23.413 billion yuan, down 51% year-on-year and 75% month on month. Affected by force majeure, Huawei's consumer business performance declined significantly in 2021, with a revenue of 243.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year decline of nearly 50%.

Poor performance is not only related to the job security of on-the-job employees, but also bears the brunt of fresh graduates and corporate social recruitment. On May 19, ideal automobile and Xiaopeng automobile broke the contract to enroll students in the school, and successively boarded the hot search. Lisa, who is preparing to join the little red book after this year, has not been able to successfully join the job: "the flow has been raised, and the offer has also been issued, but she has been dragging her way into the job, saying that it is an inventory check. There is no HC, so she will not hire anyone."

Rose, who lives in the financial industry, did not escape. In mid May, rose, who works at home, suddenly received a layoff notice from her unit. "This is the second round of layoffs in our company this year, with a proportion of up to 50%. At the beginning of the year, we were still asking each other about the layoffs. Now we are so numb that we don't even want to hear gossip. Now I am very anxious. It comes more from the uncertainty of the future. I haven't caught up with the day of making money. I don't know if I will have a chance in the future."

A grain of ash of the times, falling on an individual's head, is a mountain.

Rose is not the only one who is worried, confused and troubled. Many employees of Internet companies suddenly lost their jobs in May or even last year. What is their resignation process? What Inner sufferings have you experienced? Is there any workplace experience worth learning from? DoNews had a chat with employees of Huawei, Zhihu, byte hop and other large manufacturers.

01. "Speed of light" was dismissed within one day, and there was no room for manoeuvre

Li Meng, a 34 year old employee of Zhihu community

Zhihu "do not know the clinic" source: Zhihu marketing team

Two years ago, I changed my job from an Internet company to Zhihu. I am quite satisfied with the matching degree between the position provided by Zhihu and my own experience, the salary level, and the proximity of the company to my home. However, two years later, I never thought that the way to leave Zhihu was so disgraceful, which made me feel a little cold.

Since May this year, the epidemic situation in Beijing has developed, making most colleagues work at home passively. However, our work content has not changed. My department belongs to the large community department. Every day, I need to do the content operation of the platform and the round table operation of the project. Every Friday, our department has a group meeting to summarize the work of the week and make specific work arrangements for the preparation of the next week.

On May 20, the group meeting on Friday was somewhat different from usual. At the end of the meeting, the leader mentioned mysteriously that the company would have a structural adjustment recently, and he would talk to specific relevant colleagues in private next Monday. However, we didn't think much about it, let alone take it seriously. After all, Internet companies have a fast pace, and the structural adjustment is quite common.

However, something unexpected happened. On Monday, May 23, everyone was still working on time in the morning. In the afternoon, the leader suddenly informed me to participate in the online Tencent meeting to clarify the "changes after the structure adjustment". In the online meeting group, there are not only department leaders, but also HR colleagues. I realized that the situation was wrong. HR explained that the company's business had changed recently, and the organizational structure had to be adjusted, so I could not continue to work with me in the future.

Before I can react, HR has entered the next stage of the conversation, the last day and how to compensate. HR told me that the company would give us n+1 compensation. The day of the conversation, that is, May 23, was the last day of the company. After confirming the amount of compensation, there was not much difference between the amount estimated in my mind, so I directly signed the resignation agreement.

There is no value in continuing to talk with HR in the future. Apart from making me feel very tired, it has no effect, because the layoff list has long been determined. Within half an hour after I signed the agreement, my enterprise wechat was disabled by the company administrator, which made me feel that the company was ruthless under the interests. Under the epidemic situation, I was caught off guard by surprise layoffs.

As far as I know, according to news reports, the proportion of layoffs is about 20%-30%, but the actual proportion of layoffs in our department has reached 35%-40%. Some groups have even been abolished, including the composition of grass-roots management. Gold, silver and four have passed, and I am about to usher in a 35 year old "year of crisis". I have no extravagant hopes for the future.

02. After being sanctioned, invalid overtime increased, and there was no year-end bonus for resignation

After graduating from university in 2013, I joined Huawei operator BG as a fresh graduate to do R & D work. At that time, Huawei was in the rising stage of development. This year, Huawei surpassed Ericsson as the world's largest telecom operator for the first time. At that time, I was satisfied with my career choice.

After working for BG, an operator for four years, I found that there was limited room for improvement in my work, so in my fifth year of work, I applied for internal job transfer and went to work in the 2012 laboratory. However, the work in the 2012 lab was boring. After more than a year of work, I applied for internal job transfer again to challenge myself and come to consumer BG.

2018 was the year with the highest development momentum of consumer BG. For the first time, the revenue of consumer business exceeded that of operator business and became the most "strong" department. I was secretly glad to enter Huawei and step on every node. But unexpectedly, a year later, the situation changed.

In may2019, due to the well-known "blocking event" of chip technology, the difficulties of consumer business increased year by year. Although I belong to a grass-roots R & D position, our grass-roots employees do not have a particularly intuitive feeling after the business is limited. But what can be clearly felt is that more and more overtime is being worked.

The leaders will make us work overtime for various reasons, but in fact, the work efficiency has not been improved. The key to the problem is that the overtime pay can only be settled when I leave the company, which can not be reflected when I am on the job, which makes me have some resistance. In addition, I don't have a close relationship with leaders at ordinary times, and performance appraisal is often a speech of leaders. During my work at consumer BG, I have excellent working ability, but my performance has been poor or even worse, which has a lot to do with the disharmonious relationship between me and my leaders.

I will not get the year-end bonus if the half year performance and annual performance appraisal are poor. After weighing the advantages and disadvantages, I think it is not cost-effective to continue. I am determined to leave Huawei. However, I didn't expect that the process of leaving the company was not pleasant. The problem also lies in the year-end bonus. Because in Huawei, even if the employee is to leave, the leader has the right to give performance. If the performance is C, I will not get the year-end bonus, only n+1 compensation.

I have worked in Huawei for nearly ten years, and my great youth has contributed to the company. I also have deep feelings for Huawei. However, the reduction in the amount of severance compensation makes me feel very cold. As far as I know, I am not the only one who did not get the year-end bonus. Many people in our department, whether actively or passively, suffered losses because of the year-end bonus when they left.

Huawei is based on the striver. Every striver should get his own "reward". The rights and interests of workers should be protected. There should be no "grey mechanism". Of course, compared with Internet companies, Huawei has been very kind. Even if it voluntarily leaves, employees can get n+1 compensation. However, Huawei is not as glamorous as the outside world. For example, Huawei's provident fund is much lower than that of other enterprises. The shuttle bus costs are borne by itself, and the canteen is more expensive than outside. Although I left my job, I still have higher expectations for Huawei. Huawei should do better.

03. "Lousy" and "lying flat" were dismissed from the company, and I started to drive online taxi Hailing

Chen Mo, 30, planning of rongchuang real estate

As soon as I graduated from college, I entered the real estate industry to do planning related work. After working for seven years, my salary rose from the earliest 2000-3000 yuan to tens of thousands of yuan. In addition to various real estate investment behaviors, it can be said that after working for several years, I basically realized financial freedom in our second and third tier small cities. I also witnessed the vigorous development of the real estate industry in these years.

I thought that my career path in the real estate industry could continue smoothly. After all, with the increase of working years, I have more and more experience in project management and project screening. But I didn't expect that since last year, due to policy regulation, the company's business performance has declined sharply. Since last year, the company has laid off employees for several rounds in order to reduce operating costs, reduce staffing and reduce salaries.

My salary will inevitably be affected, shrinking to more than 10000 yuan. Not only will my salary be reduced, delayed payment, various subsidies and reimbursement will be stopped, and the year-end bonus will also be cancelled. Leaders often find various reasons for us to work overtime on weekends and do various ppt. It has greatly affected my work enthusiasm. After all, there is no extra reward for hard work. It seems that there is no loss if I don't work hard.

Gradually, after 2022, I began to learn to lie flat and put things in a bad way. I simply fooled the work arranged by the leaders. I went to work at the designated time, got off work on time, and didn't work overtime at night. Perhaps the leaders also noticed my passive and slow down state. I saw myself on the latest round of layoffs in May.

The human resources department had a brief talk with me, and I readily agreed to the compensation plan. The development of more than one industry in the past year has made me have no expectations for the real estate industry. The wages have been delayed for several consecutive months, and even the basic living expenses have been affected. This year I am also 30 years old, "standing at 30". Instead of "boiling frogs in warm water" and slowly consuming your enthusiasm and passion, it is better to adjust yourself and switch tracks to find new career possibilities during the downturn of the industry.

Last year I bought an electric car for myself after I bought a house with all the money the year before last. In the case of poor operation of the company, during the bad period, I often open an online car Hailing service at night to subsidize my life. The cost of electric vehicle electricity is low. I can earn between 100 yuan and 200 yuan every day, at least solving my daily meal expenses.

After leaving my job, I became a full-time online taxi driver. A friend asked me if I wouldn't be anxious because I hadn't been looking for a job? In fact, I don't have any anxiety at all. I have fallen in love with the job of online taxi Hailing driver. The work pressure is not as great as that of the real estate industry. I have free working hours. I can make a net profit of more than 10000 per month. I am even happier. Now think about it, this may be "Sai Weng lost, how can you know it is not a blessing"!

04. When the isolation period ended, I became a jobless vagrant

Who would have thought that the blows of life were always one after another?

In early May, there was a positive case of COVID-19 near my community. Subsequently, as a closely connected community, our entire community was controlled and could not go out. I think it's bad enough that I can't go to work in isolation at home. I don't want a bigger blow. On May 12, the third day of isolation, that is, after the company's dual listing in Hong Kong, the company's manpower began to communicate with employees to discuss layoffs.

I was also on the list of this layoff. After a brief communication on the compensation scheme, I was officially laid off. At the end of May, I came to the company to go through the resignation procedures. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. However, from the time when the manpower informed me of the layoff to the end of the layoff, I was in a state of blank brain and confused eyes. I had no time to respond and did not make any preparations, including recording in advance.

This is my first experience of being laid off. Since graduating from university in 2019, I have worked for only three years. In 2021, I joined the shell new house business department. I remember not long after I first joined the company, the leaders began to talk about the sadness of life every day. In the second half of the year, the company began to lay off employees in succession.

Because I just entered the real estate industry, I don't know much about the industry. I just vaguely heard from the leaders that the poor new house business is mainly the problem of developers. Some developers are in arrears for more than half a year to more than a year. After this year, the industry is increasingly depressed. As a grass-roots employee, I can clearly feel the difficulties of the company.

However, I did not expect that a young new employee of mine was also on the layoff list. On the one hand, the layoffs in the company are in full swing; On the one hand, I was trapped in my community home because of the epidemic, and I couldn't go anywhere. At that time, I felt terrible, and my depression was beyond words. When I was isolated at home, I began to look for a job on the Internet, but the position was limited. I either didn't open it or didn't respond after submitting my resume.

I think in this year's market, it will be difficult for me to find a suitable job for a while. I might as well give myself a long holiday. However, I can't lie flat completely. The thought of the monthly rent and various living expenses as a Beipiao makes me feel great pressure. I planned to give myself another month or two. If I haven't found a new job, I'm going to go back to my hometown to avoid it.

05. Internet companies "Disenchantment": after layoffs, I saw big companies without filters

I was laid off last year because I was laid off early. Fortunately, a week after leaving, I quickly found a new job and was generally satisfied. I am a member of the byte beat Shanghai commercialization team, headquartered in Shanghai Science and technology oasis office building. On November 9, 2021, the leader Fei Shula group informed everyone to hold an online meeting together. Byte Shanghai commercialization team adjusted that many managers retired to the front line, employees were laid off, and the group of more than 60 people only retained single digits.

Subsequently, the company entered the stage of handling resignation procedures, and the compensation was n+1. Of course, the company provides job transfer opportunities internally. Strong employees have the opportunity to do vertical sales at the headquarters of byte beating City, and weak employees have the opportunity to innovate in new business lines, such as Tiktok group buying. But after a comprehensive consideration, I decided to leave.

In June, 2021, our school recruited students to join the byte beat Shanghai commercialization team. The position is sales management training. In fact, before I got the commercial offer of byte beating, I also got the job of a teacher in Shenzhen. However, byte beating belongs to a big Internet company with a halo on its head. I also very much agree with the enterprise values of byte beating to "embrace change". So I came to Shanghai from Shenzhen without hesitation.

But "embracing change" may mean that drastic changes may occur at any time. Before I joined the company, I was looking forward to byte beating. After joining the company, I found that there was a gap between reality and ideal. When the halo and filter of the Internet giant faded, there were actually many problems. The whole commercialized team is very young, most of them are post-95. The qualifications of the team leaders, such as educational background and social experience, are very general. I graduated from graduate school, and I am the employee with the highest school record in the team.

We usually fish and paddle a lot, and the overall working atmosphere is general. In particular, the welfare of employees is very different from that of the headquarters of Shanghai Science and technology oasis. We must introduce our identity to the outside world as a byte beating Tiktok commercial team, not a byte beating Tiktok team. The essence of the work of the commercial team is advertising sales. We mainly do SMB (small and medium-sized enterprise business). In the actual business promotion, there are limited businesses and industries suitable for information flow advertising. The final result may be that one order will die, and then a new business will be launched.

Another new business in the job transfer option, Tiktok group buying, I didn't go because the staff of the Department was very mobile, and the ineffective meetings of threeorfour hours a day were very mental torture. The byte beat commercialization team is very good at packaging itself through various new words, which may be a drawback of all major Internet manufacturers. For example, face-to-face sales speak of OS, e-sales speak of is, ground to ground reasoning about innovation, and layoffs are called optimization. In a word, some jobs in big factories are ostensible and well paid, but in fact they have no skills.

After this setback in the workplace, I advise the children who have just graduated that if they have a better choice, they must not do Internet sales. They cannot learn anything, which is not conducive to the long-term development of their careers. The core posts worth going to in Internet enterprises are technology posts. In fact, the posts of product manager, operation and sales are scarce. We all think we can keep in our twenties, but it is impossible. We should do something of higher value while we are young.
