By inviting the community to share feedback on how the fan membership platform will provide the best support, patreon has just released the results of its first creator survey It can be seen that among the 250000 creators active on the platform, more than 13000 responded to the survey, covering 113 market regions and 18 languages In addition, video is the most popular major media on patreon (38%), followed by text creation (17%) and podcasting (14%).

56% of patreon creators believe that it is closer to experienced professionals. Another 44% said they were still in their infancy. Interestingly, the creators claim that the platform contributes more than 40% of their creative revenue.

Earlier, linktree, a link in bio monetization platform, also surveyed 9500 creators. Both platforms pointed out in the report that the proportion of brand sponsorship in creators' income is not as much as previously thought. 2.jpg

The data given by linktree is that 70% of creators get brand cooperation, accounting for less than 10% of their revenue, while patreon's side is only 2%. As for why the gap is so large, it is obviously related to the type coverage of the overall report.

For example, touring and live performances account for the majority of musicians' income, but their proportion on the patreon platform is very general - not to mention the impact of the epidemic. Offline touring in recent years is basically cool.

As for the payment method based on cryptocurrency, the patreon survey shows that creators are not interested. Even executives such as CEO Jack Conte and CPO Julian Gutman said that the platform has always been interested in exploring ways to make profits in this regard.

In an interview last December, Gutman revealed that patreon was considering setting up a small encryption team to study potential options (including NFT / non homogeneous tokens), but had no plans to join Web3.

However, the survey results showed that 43% of creators strongly opposed encrypted payment, 30% of respondents said they didn't care, and only 9% / 18% thought encrypted payment was important or happy to hold it.

The reason is that people are generally worried about potential fraud, ecological sustainability, and the inaccessibility of relevant technologies in current applications.

Many creators (including those who have participated in the research for many times) explicitly oppose any Web3 function built by patreon - even if some creators already provide relevant benefits through the platform and are excited about the flexibility and value of new digital goods.

Finally, some creators worry that if patreon gets involved in Web3, its audience may be unlikely to support the creators through the platform.
