On May 20, Qualcomm announced the launch of wireless ar smart glasses reference design equipped with Xiaolong XR2 platform, marking another milestone in promoting XR to become the next generation computing platform. The wireless reference design will help OEMs and ODM manufacturers create more seamless and cost-effective prototypes, and then launch lightweight top ar glasses, enabling an immersive experience of the meta universe.

The AR reference design hardware developed by Goethe Co., Ltd. has a shape reduced by 40%, and has a more ergonomically balanced weight distribution, so as to improve the wearing comfort. The dual micro OLED binocular display provided by Shiya technology supports 1920x1080 monocular resolution and no motion blur characteristics up to 90hz, which will help create a seamless ar experience. Two monochrome cameras and one RGB camera on AR smart glasses can support six degrees of freedom (6DOF) head tracking, hand tracking and gesture recognition to achieve ar accuracy.

The reference design adopts a system level solution and supports a wireless separated processing architecture to distribute the computing load between smart phones and AR glasses. In order to achieve a real immersive ar experience, the device supports a delay between smartphone and AR glasses of less than 3 milliseconds. With the help of fastconnect 6900 mobile connection system solution, the reference design provides comprehensive Wi Fi 6 / 6e and Bluetooth connections, providing users with the fastest commercial market rate and wider coverage. With the new Qualcomm fastconnect XR software suite, system integration manufacturers and application developers can obtain the following optimization features:

Priority channel access optimized for XR load and better load control shorten the delay of "action rendering display (m2r2p)", reduce jitter and avoid unnecessary interference.

The power mode specially designed for low-power operation can achieve a more lasting and stable XR experience without affecting the time delay.

Through the combination of top technology and innovative product forms, Qualcomm technologies will continue to meet the needs of diversified consumer and enterprise customers, and help promote the large-scale expansion of AR to the broad mass market. The reference design of wireless ar smart glasses is now available to some partners and is expected to be available to more partners in the coming months.
