Tesla Canada research team recently issued a report, if their research results can be turned into reality, the future car battery can be used for 100 years. Since 2015, researchers from Dalhousie University have cooperated with Tesla to develop new lithium-ion batteries. Tesla claims that the purpose of the research is to develop batteries with longer life, higher energy density and lower cost.

As for whether the dream of the research team can become a mass production product, we still have to wait and see. Tesla recently updated the contract, and the cooperation between the two sides will continue until 2026.

The team focused on increasing the number of charging cycles with nickel based batteries (NMC). It is found that compared with LFP batteries, NWC batteries, especially those with balanced charge up to 3.8V, have better coulomb efficiency, better charging attenuation and higher charging density. The expected service life can reach one century at 25 ℃.

In the real world, it is difficult to maintain the temperature at 25 degrees, but Tesla can adjust it with an advanced thermal management system. It is well known that relatively stable temperature can prolong battery life.

At present, the replacement cost of automobile batteries is about 12000-22000 US dollars. If it can really extend the battery life, it is indeed a breakthrough. (Xinghai)
