Tesla once again conducted a large-scale recall, involving more than 100000 vehicles On May 17, according to the official website of the State Administration of market supervision, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration of market supervision in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the administration of recall of defective automotive products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the Administration of recall of defective automotive products. Since May 23, 2022, 107293 domestic model 3 and model y electric vehicles with production dates from October 19, 2021 to April 26, 2022 have been recalled.

This batch of vehicles were recalled mainly because the central processor of the infotainment system may not be cooled sufficiently when some vehicles are preparing for DC fast charging or during DC fast charging, resulting in the slow running speed of the central processor and the slow display of the central touch screen. In serious cases, the central processor may restart, resulting in the failure of the display. When the above faults occur, the reversing image, the setting of windshield (defrosting, defogging and wiper) functions, driving gear display and indicator lights will not work normally. In extreme cases, it will increase the risk of vehicle collision accidents and have potential safety hazards.

Tesla is still recalled through remote upgrade (OTA) technology this time, so as to avoid taking too long for car owners to return to the store. Tesla will upgrade the recalled vehicles to 2022.12.3.3 or later software for free. When the upgraded vehicles are ready for DC fast charging or during DC fast charging, it will alleviate the rise of the temperature of the central processor to prevent its running speed from slowing down or restarting.

Recall large Tesla

Tesla is a veritable recall. On the official website of China's state market supervision and administration, Tesla has recalled three times since April 7. The previous two occurred on April 7 and April 29 respectively.

On April 7, Tesla called back some imported and domestic model 3 electric vehicles whose production date was from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022, with a total of 127785 vehicles (including 34207 imported model 3 vehicles and 93578 domestic model 3 vehicles). This recall is because there may be small manufacturing differences in the power semiconductor components of the rear motor inverter, which may cause the vehicle to fail to start or lose driving power.

On April 29, Tesla recalled some imported and domestic model 3 high-performance electric vehicles with a production date from January 12, 2019 to March 25, 2022, totaling 14684 vehicles (including 1850 imported vehicles and 12834 domestic vehicles). The recall is mainly due to the lack of speed unit (km / h) in the speed area of the vehicle's central touch screen under track mode.

The same is that the three recalls were completed by Tesla through auto remote upgrade (OTA) technology, avoiding the recall cost caused by large-scale arrival of vehicles.

However, according to the official website of the State Administration of market supervision and administration, since April 2, Tesla has carried out three recalls, far exceeding the recall times of other car companies (if Bentley, Mercedes Benz and BMW are included, the recall times of Volkswagen exceed Tesla), and the cumulative number of recalled vehicles for the three times exceeded 240000, almost twice that of Toyota series, which ranks second.

Since 2022, Tesla has conducted a total of four recalls. The largest number of vehicles recalled was April 7 (127785), followed by May 17 (107293).

Among the four recalls, mainly for model 3 and model y made in China, the cumulative number of recalls exceeded 238000, accounting for nearly 90% of the four recalls this year. The production date of the recalled vehicles covers the whole time from the production of Tesla Shanghai Super factory at the end of 2019 to March 28, 2022, when the factory stopped production due to the implementation of epidemic prevention and control in Shanghai.

However, there is no evidence that Tesla's four recalls in 2022 are related to the factory's production process, because these four recalls were completed by Tesla through vehicle remote upgrade technology. In response to the recall of vehicles that could not be started or lost power caused by rear motor inverter on April 7, Zhang Xiang, President of New Energy Vehicle Technology Research Institute of Jiangxi new energy technology vocational college, believes that the remote upgrade technology may not be completely solved and a new inverter should be replaced.

In the recall of imported model s, model 3 and model 3 made in China on December 31, 2021, there may be problems related to manufacturing process or parts defects. The reason for this recall is that the model s has a slight backward alignment between the front trunk latch and the latch; Model 3 has the problem that the trunk harness may be excessively worn after the trunk cover is repeatedly opened and closed for a long time. In this recall, Tesla will relocate or replace worn parts for users who have problems after inspection.

The central control screen is black and loses power

Tesla owners said "it all depends on luck"

Among many Tesla owners, they have summarized many solutions to various problems in the use of Tesla - "stop and restart as long as the vehicle can walk."

If there are problems such as black screen and incomplete display of central control screen, they most mention "restart". Some car owners even suggested that "if restarting once doesn't work, try it a second time." What's more, many car owners can't solve the problem if they find that restarting can't solve the problem. As long as the vehicle still has driving power, they should drive it first. "Maybe this problem will disappear when it depends on luck."

Because Tesla's vehicles have had similar problems many times.

According to Henan Minsheng channel, in January 2021, Mr. Shi, the owner of Tesla, reported that the central control screen of Tesla Model 3 he purchased on December 15, 2020 had black screens for many times. The owner said that more than a month after the purchase on December 15, 2020, his car could not be started three times, resulting in a black screen.

The first time was that the central control screen appeared black after buying it for a week. It was restarted after pressing the restart button for nearly ten minutes. A week later, the same situation happened again. But what people didn't expect was that a week later, the same thing happened again - this time it was more serious. The owner tossed in the car for nearly 30 minutes before lighting up the central control screen of the car.

Also in January 2021, Mr. Cai, the owner of Shenzhen Tesla, encountered the same problem. His vehicle was the model s purchased in 2016. According to Mr. Cai's feedback, on January 6, 2021, when he was driving from Shenzhen to Dongguan expressway, the vehicle suddenly broke down - the navigation in the car was stuck for several times. Then he called the customer service and there was no good solution. Then there were problems with the steering light, such as the wrong steering indicator and the steering prompt sound.

Shortly after the series of faults appeared, the central control system of his vehicle had a black screen. Afterwards, he drove the vehicle to the offline store for maintenance according to the customer service instructions. On January 12, 2021, the market staff of Tesla in South China said that the failure of Mr. Cai's Tesla mainly came from the black screen of the central control system.

According to 1818 golden eye report, Hangzhou owner Mr. Hu bought a Tesla Model y in January 2022, with a transaction price of more than 270000 yuan. As a result, the central control screen was half black after the new car was only opened for a week. In the post maintenance, it was found that the car machine chip was damaged, and then Tesla after-sales replaced the damaged chip for him.

Shortly before Tesla's recall on April 7, a Tesla owner encountered a sudden loss of power on the highway. The owner of the Tesla Model 3 revealed that he suddenly lost power when driving at high speed, and the screen showed that "the vehicle can't continue to drive, please stop immediately".

At that time, his vehicle was driving in the tunnel at the speed of 100km / h, and then suddenly lost power without warning. The owner stepped on the switch and didn't respond. Afterwards, after maintenance, Tesla believed that the fault code of the vehicle pointed to the inverter.

The biggest storm of public opinion caused by Tesla's inverter is in February 2021. At that time, a car owner in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province purchased Tesla Model 3 for only six days. After charging with Tesla's special charging pile, the inverter was burned out. Tesla after-sales responded that the current of the state grid was too large and damaged the inverter.

This statement was immediately denied by the State Grid. Tesla immediately apologized to the State Grid, saying that the after-sales reply recording was edited and spread, and also expressed its apology to Nanchang power grid.
