Mechanical hard disk has opened a new chapter today Western Digital released the world's first 26tb hard disk "ultrastar DC hc670" While the total capacity reached a new high, single disc capacity also reached a record 2.6tb , so only 10 discs are needed to achieve a total capacity of 26tb.

This hard disk uses a number of exclusive technologies of Western Digital, including optinand, epmr, TSA, helioseal and ultrasmr**

Optinand technology has previously been used in WD gold 20tb and ultrastar DC hc560 20tb hard disk (CMR) of Western Digital, and the inand flash memory chip of basic UFS specification, but it is not used as cache, but to store metadata, reduce the refresh time of adjacent track interference, and improve the disk storage density and read-write performance.

Epmr is energy assisted vertical magnetic recording, TSA is a third-order orbit seeking and positioning system, and helioseal is naturally helium filled packaging technology.

SMR laminated magnetic recording has been advocated by almost everyone, but it is really helpful to improve the capacity. Western Digital has also created an upgraded version of ultrasmr, which supports larger block coding and more advanced error correction technology, so as to increase the width size (TPI) of each track and improve the capacity**

In addition, the new hard disk also introduces armorcache write cache protection technology for the first time, which can improve performance (WCE) when turned on and data security (WCE) when turned off**

In addition, Western Digital also released the world's first 22tb hard disk "ultrastar DC hc570" for CMR traditional magnetic recording, which is also packed in 10 discs with a single disc capacity of 2.2tb. It also has optimand, epmr, TSA, helioseal and other technologies**

Western Digital hc670 26tb and HC 570 22tb have begun to send samples to some key customers in the data center, and will be supplied in batches this summer.

Western Digital also revealed that is steadily moving towards 30tb + capacity with new technologies, especially epmr**
