In a notice sent to U.S. state election officials, the U.S. Bureau of network security and infrastructure (CISA) said that at least 16 states currently use electronic voting machines from a major supplier that have software vulnerabilities. If they are not resolved, they are vulnerable to hacker attacks.

CISA said that at present, there is no evidence that hackers have used the device vulnerability of dominion voting systems to tamper with the election results. The consultation was based on the test of a well-known computer scientist and expert witness of a long-term lawsuit. The lawsuit has nothing to do with the false accusation of election theft promoted by former president donaldtrump after his defeat in the 2020 election.

According to the report obtained by the associated press, it details the 9 vulnerabilities and suggests protective measures to prevent or detect their exploitation. In the whirlpool of erroneous and false information about the election, CISA seems to be walking on the boundary line of not alerting the public and emphasizing the actions of election officials.

In a statement, Brandonwales, executive director of CISA, said: "The States' standard election security procedures will detect the exploitation of these vulnerabilities and in many cases will completely prevent these attempts. However, the recommendation seems to indicate that the states have not done enough. It urges the prompt adoption of mitigation measures, including the continuation and strengthening of defensive measures, to reduce the risk of exploiting these vulnerabilities. The announcement says that these measures need to be implemented before each election, and it is clear that none of the states using these machines have Have done so ".

J. Alex Halderman, a computer scientist at the University of Michigan, wrote this consultation report. He has long believed that it is dangerous to use digital technology to record votes, because computers are vulnerable to hacker attacks, so a variety of safeguard measures need to be taken, but these measures have not been uniformly observed. He and many other election security experts insist that the use of handwritten paper ballots is the safest voting method and the only option for meaningful post election auditing.
