According to European Automotive News, Mercedes Benz will provide drive pilot as an optional feature on S-class and EQS models from May 17, which is the first L3 level auto drive system approved for use on public roads in Europe. Mercedes Benz said on Friday that the price of the drive pilot on the S-class model is 5000 euros and the price on the EQS is 7430 euros.

Drive pilot can take over dynamic driving behavior under certain conditions and reduce the pressure of drivers, so that users can save driving time, rest in the car or engage in other work. For example, communicate with colleagues through the office function in the car, use the car machine to send messages and emails, browse the Internet, or even sit down and relax and watch movies.

The system can be used on 13191km highways in Germany under busy road traffic conditions, and the maximum speed is no higher than 60km / h. The sensors on the system include radar, lidar and camera, as well as ultrasonic and humidity sensors, which provide road condition data to the on-board "brain". The system can control speed, braking and lane position.

The drive pilot system can ask the driver to take over at any time, which is also a prerequisite for L3 auto drive system. If the driver fails to respond within 10 seconds, the car will stop in an emergency.

A Mercedes spokesman said on Friday that the system will only be available on new cars and cannot be refurbished because it needs to install special hardware.
