The Survey Shows That MacOS Application Developers Generally Say That Their Biggest Challenge Is How The Product Is Discovered By Users

The latest annual survey report of setapp on MAC developers shows that application discovery is a major problem, but more than half of them plan to launch a new MacOS application in 2022. In the sixth annual survey, setapp asked developers about distribution, apple silicon and the war in setapp's homeland Ukraine.

According to 354 respondents from 37 countries in May, 2022, application discovery is the biggest challenge faced by 57% of developers. Once heard of the application, getting users is the main problem for 52% of people, while 51% of developers struggle most in marketing.

In the fourth and fifth place, 27% said that their problem was the lack of regular income, such as subscriptions, and 22% said that overall monetization was a challenge.

About subscription, 26% of people are currently using it, and 31% said they would consider using it. About 11% said they had given up the subscription model, while a total of 23% thought they would not consider it, or certainly not.

Headquartered in Ukraine, setapp was directly affected by the war with Russia. Setapp also conducted an investigation on the situation among developers around the world. "Almost 70% of the respondents felt some of the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine," the company said. "9% of them were significantly or seriously affected."

Setapp also said, "68% of people... Would rather or fully support using product features or creating new features to help Ukrainians". In addition, 53% of developers "would rather or fully support their colleagues to stop using frameworks and applications from Russia.
