The US Food and drug administration has approved a new Apple atrial fibrillation monitoring (AFib) function, which may appear on watchos a few hours before WWDC's 2022 keynote speech. This FDA approved function is called "atrial fibrillation history function 510 (k)". With approval, apple can now add this feature to its services and hardware.

Access:

Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heart rhythm. The current apple watch model can detect atrial fibrillation 50 to 150 times per minute in some regions and 50 to 120 times per minute in other countries.

There are few technical details about this new feature, but the "history" section in the feature name indicates that users will be able to see an analysis of their heart rhythm or atrial fibrillation symptoms.

Bloomberg previously reported that watchos 9 may support the "atrial fibrillation burden detection" function, allowing users to monitor the frequency of atrial fibrillation within a set time.

It is not clear whether this feature will debut on WWDC in 2022 as part of the company's watchos 9 software update, or whether it will become a hardware feature launched on the new Apple watch model in the fall.
