Rick osterloh, Google's Hardware Director, said in an interview a few days ago that "environmental computing" is Google's future goal and vision. "Computing should be able to seamlessly help you solve any problem, and it's right next to you," Ostrow said in an interview on Wednesday

Earlier in the day, Google released a series of new products and feature updates at the 2022 Google I / O developer conference, including a new pixel tablet and smart watch.

At the end of the event, Google released new augmented reality (AR) smart glasses that support Google translation services.

Google had previously released Google glasses that could connect to the Internet, but the project eventually failed. In the 10 years since the launch of this device, Google has carried out many research projects in similar augmented reality fields, but most of the hardware products are more traditional smartphones, laptops and home smart speakers, similar to Apple Companies and other competitors are similar.

"We have learned a lot from the launch of Google glasses," Ostrow said in an interview. "We know how difficult it is to develop this technology and what users care about and what is most important."

Ostrow did not disclose when the augmented reality glasses would be available, but said that Google had "some engineers and developers are continuing to develop" the product for internal testing. "There is still some way to go to achieve this goal, but we will continue to invest heavily in augmented reality," he said

But products such as smart glasses play a key role in Google's vision of "environmental computing," Ostrow said. "You can see how wonderful it would be if you had a device on your face that allows you to communicate in real time, translate, and detect the world around you in real time," he said

Google's competitors meta and snap have released more fashionable augmented reality glasses, and apple is also developing this technology. Google also invested in start-up magic leap, which raised a lot of money to develop a virtual reality helmet, but it didn't get public attention and finally turned to enterprise sales.
