What Would Happen If The Moon Disappeared?

The radiance of the full moon casts a perfect atmosphere for a romantic dinner or an evening walk on the beach. Ancient people used the moon as a clock and calendar. Anaxagora, a Greek philosopher in the fifth century, was arrested and exiled for his theory that the moon was actually an object rather than a God. In the 13th century, the famous English philosopher and Franciscan friar Roger Bacon believed that the light of the moon caused the evaporation of the earth's oceans.

Although it has always been the focus of our attention, the moon is usually taken for granted. It has been on it for billions of years, so we are used to seeing it, just like seeing clouds, trees or the ocean. In fact, in 2020, planetary geophysicists from the German Aerospace Center and the University of Minster proposed a new calculation method, that is, the earth satellite was formed 4.425 billion years ago.

With an average distance of 238855 miles, the moon is the nearest object to our planet. Its diameter is about 2159 miles, about a quarter the size of the earth. As space pointed out, this 1:4 ratio is more important than any one in our solar system, so the earth's moon has a significant impact on its planetary partners. But what happens if it suddenly disappears?

The moon has an influence on the earth

If the Moon leaves without permission, I believe most people may not notice - at least not at first. Astronomy points out that people living near the ocean will see an immediate change in the size of low and high tides, which has been reduced by more than half. Tidal changes will greatly affect the ecosystem of each coastline, and marine organisms such as barnacles, crabs, mussels and starfish may become extinct.

Land animals, especially nocturnal animals that prey on moonlight, will become very confused and eventually die of hunger. As all ecosystems on the earth are interdependent, the chain reaction starting from the extinction of coastal marine organisms will lead to the plight of human survival. Astronomy continues to point out that the earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees due to the gravity of the moon. Without the moon, we can expect this inclination to swing between 10 and 45 degrees, which will change the earth's season and climate. A tilt closer to zero will lead to no seasons, while a larger angle will lead to extreme weather changes and may even induce a new ice age.

Humans rely on season and climate to grow and harvest crops. Removing these patterns that have been established for thousands of years will greatly reduce human ability to grow and produce food. In the final analysis, the moon is a necessary partner in the cosmic dance of life. Without it, life on earth will always come to an end.
