From the photos released by the latter, Siegel recognized that the offender was someone she knew at the conference, on the grounds that everyone inside was wearing bitcoin 2022 wristbands.
Later, she submitted a harassment report to the official twitter account of the event, but regretted that she did not receive a public reply. So she said in a private letter that someone openly harassed her with photos taken at the meeting, resulting in her being seriously offended online.
Later, a spokesman (@ chairforce) only provided the contact information redirected to the website. Siegel was very dissatisfied with the handling attitude of the organizer. As a result, it was found that it was the same as the complained person in the spokesman's tweet list.
Wired pointed out that although the conference clearly gave a policy of "no offensive comments on others' appearance", many women, including Siegel, angrily said that the organizers were really poor in implementing and actively protecting women's safety.
Other cases include a woman who was assaulted on the chest by someone during a private party in the week of the meeting, and another woman who found an airtag smart tracker stuffed into her bag after attending a party at the home of a well-known encryption investor. Such events make people shudder.
Considering that the incident is difficult to be resolved satisfactorily, both informants chose to remain anonymous and not report the relevant incident to the conference organizer or the police, so as to avoid retaliation in the BTC community with uneven quality.
In addition, there are two more brave women. After learning that one of the speakers is BTC developer Peter Todd (Todd denies misconduct), they have decided not to attend this year's bitcoin conference and warned her to be vigilant.
As for the bitcoin Conference itself, the event was officially launched in San Francisco in 2019, but moved to the more popular city of Miami in 2021. Since last year, the scale of the event has doubled and attracted sponsors such as cash app, Sofi and MasterCard.
